Fork sensor working principle
The working principle of tuning fork level sensor is based on vibrating a tuning fork sensor continuously at its natural frequency and detecting the change of frequency and amplitude in the presence of application media. The monitoring process of given parameters depends upon type of application media.
A specially shaped tuning fork is kept vibrating using piezo-electric elements. The oscillation of the tuning fork damps when in contact with the material. The loss of oscillation amplitude is detected and used for switching a relay. The output contacts of the relay are in turn used for annunciation and/or control.

Tuning fork type level switch FEATURES
The vibrating fork type level switch working principle is indeed simple, effective, reliable and cost-effective means to measure or detect the presence and absence of liquids and bulk solids.
How does a fork level instrument work?
The vibrating fork type level sensor works on the principle of tuning forks. When the fork comes in contact with liquids/solid material, the frequency slightly changes, and this change in frequency is sensed by the electronic circuit which in turn send out a signal.
Application of tuning fork level sensor
As a result of an electrical current passing through two tines, vibrating fork level instrument are commonly used in industrial applications to measure liquid and solid levels. This principle is used to determine the level of material in a vessel or container based on the vibration frequency that changes when tines are in contact with a material. This change is detected by the sensor electronics.
Here are some examples of the application of tuning fork level sensors:
Solid level measurement: Tuning fork level sensors can also be used to measure the level of solid materials in hoppers, silos, and other containers.
Liquid level measurement: Tuning fork level sensors can be used to measure the level of liquids in tanks and vessels such as chemical storage tanks, water treatment plants, and food processing industries.
Detection of blockages: Tuning fork level sensors can detect blockages in pipes and chutes caused by the buildup of material.
Pump protection: Tuning fork level sensors can be used to protect pumps by detecting low levels of liquids in sumps or reservoirs, preventing the pump from running dry.
Overall, tuning fork level sensors offer reliable, non-contact level measurement solutions for a wide range of industrial applications.
