Factors Affecting the Accurate Measurement of Ultrasonic Level Gauge

Ultrasonic liquid level gauge (top-mounted type) is a non-contact measuring instrument widely used in the liquid level measurement industry, with less restrictions on the measured medium. In practical applications, there will be many factors that affect the measurement results of the radar level gauge and cause errors. The ultrasonic level gauge is mainly affected by the following three factors: 1. Temperature: Ultrasonic is a kind of mechanical wave. The change of temperature will affect the change of the speed of sound. In actual measurement, a variety of natural factors will lead to errors. The advanced measurement system, including temperature sensors and software functions, can automatically compensate for temperature effects. In practical applications, due to the surrounding environment of the probe, the temperature of the ultrasonic propagation medium and the temperature of the measured medium are not the same. The measurement system should select the built-in temperature sensor combined with the probe and the external temperature sensor separated from the probe according to the actual requirements. For a more precise measurement system, an echo-reflecting reference can be placed at a specific location from the probe to generate a reference echo to compensate for temperature effects. The effectiveness of this method depends on how accurately the echo-reflecting reference is placed. 2. Dust: Dust is the most influential type of ultrasonic measurement. The dust environment has a very small impact on the speed of sound, but the attenuation of the sound wave is obvious, which is the main factor hindering the implementation of the ultrasonic solution. In practice, low frequency probes with special plastic surfaces have been used very successfully in dusty environments. 3. Pressure: Pressure mainly affects the probe, and there is also a certain relationship between pressure and temperature, so the change of pressure affects the change of temperature, which in turn affects the change of sound speed. In addition to the top-mounted ultrasonic level gauge, there is also a type of externally-mounted liquid level gauge, also known as externally-measured liquid level gauge and externally-mounted ultrasonic level gauge. The difference from the top-mounted type is that the externally-mounted type is attached to the horizontal position of the tank bottom, and the liquid level is measured by using the ultrasonic wave to penetrate the tank bottom to reach the gas-liquid interface and return the echo to calculate the height of the liquid level.
