Wet desulfurization system is an extremely effective method to reduce sulfur dioxide in exhaust gas from coal-fired boilers. The flue gas discharged from the boiler is blown into the wet reaction absorber. In the absorber, the mixed slurry of water and limestone powder is sprayed onto the flue gas. The limestone slurry absorbs sulfur dioxide (SO2) contained in the flue gas, reducing sulfide emissions. Lime reacts chemically with sulfur dioxide (SO2) to form calcium sulfite. The calcium sulfite is then chemically reacted with oxygen and is eventually converted into gypsum. Limestone slurries and gypsum slurries are very abrasive. Electromagnetic flowmeters are generally used to measure and control the flow of limestone slurries to control the injection volume for optimum absorption and cost-effectiveness. Because of the strong abrasiveness of the slurry, the use of ordinary rubber-lined (PTFE-lined) electromagnetic flowmeters has a short service life. Without the use of lined electrodes, the sealing layer is exposed to the process limestone slurry, which can easily lead to instrument failure. Once the seal is worn, or the seal around the electrodes corrodes, the process slurry can seep inside the flowmeter (coil and electrode wiring). Similarly, the protruding electrodes of ordinary flowmeters collide with limestone and gypsum in the process flow, resulting in flow noise (potential difference), and signal processing technology cannot distinguish the noise from the real flow signal, so the output of such flowmeters is unreliable and cannot be used for control. Improper installation can also cause electromagnetic flowmeter failure. In addition to having to be installed correctly upstream and downstream of the process line according to the installation requirements, it is also critical to control the flow rate of the slurry within an appropriate range. If the flow is too low, below 1.5m/s (5ft/s), solids (limestone) will settle out of the suspension and rapid wear will occur in the bottom horizontal direction inside the electromagnetic flowmeter. If the flow rate is too high, above 2m/s (7ft/s), the limestone in the slurry accelerates the wear of the lining. Any of the above situations will lead to a rapid reduction in the service life of the electromagnetic flowmeter. The solution GY-LDE electromagnetic flowmeter is ideal for this application. Guanyu company embedded electrodes on the original lining, which eliminated the friction between the process slurry and the surface of the sealing layer, and the service life of the electromagnetic flowmeter was significantly increased. A well-installed GY-LDE electromagnetic flowmeter can make the gypsum slurry flow smoothly and control the flow rate within the range of 1.5-3m/s (5-10ft/s). In this state, the limestone remains suspended in the water and wear on the lining is minimized. Corrosion of the lining is reduced due to the use of a metal ring to protect the leading edge of the lining. When the above recommendations still cannot meet the application requirements, a ceramic-lined flowmeter needs to be selected.
