While some people believe that good repeatability is a measure of precision, this is a misunderstanding. Repeatability is by no means a guarantee of accuracy. Therefore, when considering measuring equipment, if you only see the repeatability statement and the accuracy statement, many users do not know that the accuracy and repeatability of the electromagnetic flowmeter are equivalent. In this case, it doesn't seem necessary to measure the flow perfectly, but as long as the electromagnetic flowmeter is repeatable, an equal flow setting change will result in an equal flow change. And, since repeatable magnetic flowmeters are generally less expensive than state-of-the-art magnetic flowmeters, this will be an opportunity to reduce costs. Often overlooked, however, is the opportunity, or even the necessity, to perform calculations to ensure the economics of a process or the effectiveness of process improvements. For example, if the above-mentioned effluent flow meter is the overhead of a distillation column, its measurement can be used to calculate the reflux flow rate of the column. The original system design may not have taken this into account, but operational experience can determine that this control strategy will provide better control over the columns. Many such applications exist, and many of these opportunities are only discovered after the plant is operational. Sometimes a repeatable Magmeter should be replaced with a good Magmeter to get operational data and accommodate improvements. This is advantageous for electromagnetic flow meters because they repeatedly and reliably provide measurements that closely reflect the true flow rate. Repeatable meters may not provide good measurements, but they still have their place in many applications. Which one is the most suitable will depend in part on the application and your budget.
