What are the differences between ultrasonic level meter and radar level meter?

2023-08-10

Ultrasonic level meters and radar level meters are common level meters, and they can both be used to measure the height of liquids. But they work differently. The sondar ultrasonic level meter uses the time of ultrasonic wave propagation in the medium to measure the liquid level height, while the radar level meter uses the time of microwave propagation in the medium to measure the liquid level height.

Ultrasonic liquid level meter has the characteristics of high frequency, short wavelength, small diffraction phenomenon, good directivity, strong penetration, and directional propagation. However, the accuracy is not as good as that of radar level gauge, and it cannot be applied to conditions such as vacuum, high steam content or foam on the liquid level.

The measuring range of the radar level meter is much larger than that of the ultrasonic wave, with horn type, rod type and cable type, which can be applied to more complex conditions than the ultrasonic wave. Higher accuracy than ultrasonic level sensor wholesale. However, the relative price is high, and the dielectric constant of the medium should be considered when using radar.

The choice of ultrasonic level meter or radar level meter needs to be selected according to the actual situation. If the measuring range is small, and there are no influencing factors such as gas or steam in the medium, you can choose ultrasonic level meter; If the measurement range is large, and the medium contains gas or steam and other influencing factors, you can choose the radar level meter.
