Magnetrol Level Transmitter at Kaidi Sensors

Level measurement is an integral part of nearly all industrial processes that guarantee safety among workers, the environment, and process equipment.

This is because underfilling or overfilling may generate unfavorable consequences including equipment damage, hazardous spills, and accidents. Magnetrol-level transmitters are specially designed to fulfill this crucial task.

However, finding the best magnetrol level transmitter to measure the level and ensure optimal usage of resources can be challenging. Are you navigating through similar challenges?

If yes, then this article is specially designed to cater to your needs as you will get all the information about magetorl transmitters ranging from a buying guide to product highlights.

Let’s get started.

What Are Different Types of Magnetrol Level Transmitters?

There are two types of magnetrol level transmitters i.e., guided wave radar and non-contact radar. Both of these level transmitters are designed for a particular purpose.

Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitter

It is suitable for measuring the level of liquid within small tanks. It can operate well under extreme operating conditions like high temperature and pressure and its performance is not even influenced by disturbed surfaces like dust, boiling liquid, or foam.

It performs exceptionally irrespective of process conditions. However, it is not considered suitable for measuring adhesive or corrosive liquids.

Non-Contact Radar Transmitter

It is also known as a pulse radar transmitter. They are comparatively cost-effective and are easy to use. Moreover, this transmitter is equally suitable for measuring the level of both corrosive and non-corrosive liquids. However, its performance is dependent on the process conditions.

What is the working principle of magnetrol level transmitter?

The magnetrol level transmitter uses buoyancy, magnetostriction and electronics technologies to accurately measure the level of a wide variety of liquids, including interface and insoluble multiple liquids with a two-float design.

In the typical magnetostrictive level transmitter a float, appropriately sized for the specific fluid density, is mounted on the magnetrol level transmitter stem such that the float will travel up and down due to the buoyancy of the float from the fluid being measured. The float contains a magnetic element. To locate the float position the magentostrictive level transmitter electronics sends a short current pulse down a sensor wire located within the magnetrol level transmitter stem with a specific frequency, setting up a magnetic field along its entire length. This field interacts immediately with the field generated by the magnet contained within the float.

The overall effect is that during the brief time that the current flows, a torsional force is produced in the wire, much like a sonic vibration or wave, and travels back to the magnetrol magnetostrictive level transmitter electronics. A timing circuit exists within the electronics which measures the time-of-flight (TOF) between the start of the current pulse and the return signal. In this manner the float’s location (and therefore the fluid level) is very precisely determined and presented as a level signal by the magnetostrictive level transmitter, typically in 4-20mA output.

Things to Consider Before Buying Magnetrol Level Transmitter

Besides cost, there are some important factors that you should keep in mind when buying a magnetrol-level transmitter. Let’s have a look at these factors.

Performance

The first factor to consider while buying a magnetrol-level transmitter is the performance of the transmitter. To assess the performance of the transmitter, you should be clear about the operating conditions of the industrial processes and whether the process will be conducted under high temperature or pressure.

Moreover, factors like the nature of the liquid whether corrosive or non-c, corrosive, and disturbances in the form of foam, dust, or boiling also determine the transmitter's performance as every transmitter is designed to operate under particular operating conditions.

You can only achieve the expected performance if you choose the transmitter according to the operating conditions of the industrial process.

As a rule of thumb, if your process requires high temperature, pressure, extreme conditions, or disturbances, then the magnetrol guided wave radar level transmitter is perfect.

Diagnostic

Another important factor that plays a determining role is the diagnostics of your magnetrol level transmitter. The majority of magnetrol level transmitters, save and track both historical and real-time data, enabling you to identify the measurements and resolve the issues when arise.

There is also an LCD that exhibits real-time data without any instruction magnetrol level transmitter manual.

Versatility

You should also check whether your magnetrol level transmitter can operate in varying environmental conditions. This is because choosing a versatile option may enable you to save some money and enjoy high performance across different parameters and conditions.

Ease of Use

In most cases, the transmitter is preconfigured and you do not have to do any technical job. Buying such a transmitter will help you to start using it easily by just unboxing it and then attaching two wires.

So, you should always check whether your chosen transmitter is preconfigured and easy to use or not.
