What is the difference between a level meter and a level switch?

With the development of automated production, various instruments are becoming increasingly popular. Level meter and level switch are both relatively common instruments. However, for many instrument users, especially newcomers, it is easy to distinguish between level switches and level meters, and they do not know how to distinguish them, or even mix them up directly. So, what is the difference between a level meter and a level switch? This article mainly focuses on this issue to explain.

First of all, from the definition. Liquid level switch, also can be called water level switch, liquid level sensor, as the name implies, is a switch used to manipulate the liquid level. Its function is mainly in the manipulation. When the measured liquid medium reaches a certain indicated position, the liquid level switch supplier will output an alarm signal according to its working principle, so as to stop continuing to convey the liquid medium; when the measured liquid medium is lower than a certain set position, the level switch will also output an alarm signal to remind the headquarters to open the gate and start conveying the liquid. The liquid level switch is a branch under the level switch. And the level switch is the collective name of liquid level switch and material level switch.

The height of the liquid medium in the container (including tanks, storage tanks, spherical tanks, etc.) is called the liquid level, and the instrument for measuring the liquid level is called a level meter. Its function focuses on the measurement. Unlike the high level switch, which takes a switching quantity, the level meter uses a continuous quantity output signal, which can display the specific position of the liquid in real time. Liquid level meter is a branch under the level meter, according to the different measured media, the level meter can be divided into liquid level meter and material level meter.

Secondly, in terms of classification. Level switches can be divided into two categories according to whether they are in contact or not: contact level switches and non-contact level switches. Generally speaking, the more common contact level switches are float level switches and tuning fork level switches. Non-contact level switches include ultrasonic level switches, electronic level switches, capacitive level switches, electrode level switches, etc.

Liquid level meter in terms of its classification, there are mainly tuning fork level meter, float level meter, magnetic flap level meter, ultrasonic level meter, radar level meter and so on.

Of course, if the two are used together, one can measure the liquid level and the other can control the liquid level, so that the liquid level meter can realize real-time monitoring of the liquid level, and the rotary level switch can be used to close the valve when the liquid level is abnormal.
