Manual inspection ruler is a measurement method commonly used in the petroleum industry before. It mainly measures the medium (liquid) in the storage tank from the aspects of volume and quality. The most important feature is accurate measurement and simple operation, as long as one person and one meter can complete the measurement. However, this measurement method requires manual operation, and it is also very easy to cause man-made accidents.

 

For example, in 2009, when a surveyor of an enterprise was performing a survey, his mobile phone suddenly vibrated, detonating the combustible gas accumulated on the top of the tank, and the shock wave caused the master to fall to the ground and died on the spot. From this typical case, it is not difficult to see that although the manual detection ruler method is simple to operate and accurate in measurement, its safety is worrying, and the labor cost and labor intensity are also worth pondering.

 

The servo-type level gauge is developed based on Archimedes' principle. It is a typical representative of the float method and a typical representative of contact measurement methods. The feature of the float method is that a float as a detection component floats on the liquid surface and transmits the liquid level signal as the liquid level rises and falls. Its advantage is that the principle is simple, the measurement is not affected by bubbles, emulsified layers and the bottom sediments, and the measurement accuracy is relatively high. The disadvantage is that it is easily affected by the viscosity and the mechanical structure is complicated.


 



The radar level gauge is a typical representative of the principle of echo ranging, and it is also a typical representative of non-contact measurement methods. It uses the reflection of microwave pulses on the measured medium to measure the travel time from emission to reception of the reflected echo to measure the distance of the liquid surface. The biggest feature of this measurement method is that it is accurate and has little impact on the surrounding environment. The disadvantage is that the low dielectric constant has a certain influence on the radar level gauge.

 

The petroleum industry is an industry with a high risk factor. Regardless of whether it is a manual inspection ruler, a servo-type level gauge, or a radar level gauge, we must install it correctly and operate it correctly to ensure the highest level of safety.
