What should I look for when choosing a hydrostatic level gauge?

2023-11-01

What should users pay attention to when choosing hydrostatic level meter?

1、Temperature is an important influence factor

Temperature can directly affect the density of the measured medium, which requires constant compensation calculations based on the temperature of the detected level value. For example, the smaller density of the liquid medium in the temperature will expand the volume, the level will increase, but the liquid hydrostatic pressure will not change too much. This results in inaccurate calculation results, such as low level detection results.

Therefore, hydrostatic level gauges are best suited for level detection where the process constraints are known and the density of the medium is known. If the level detection process has large fluctuations or the density of the medium is unknown, then compensation is required using auxiliary sensors. Some level gauges have integrated temperature sensors, through which the temperature parameters of the liquid medium are collected for density compensation.

2, the nature of the measured liquid medium

Especially the viscosity and solid content determines whether the traditional level meter needs to be with a pressure channel or front end protective cap. When the measured liquid medium is a thin fluid medium, does not contain coarse particles, it is best to always choose the level detector with a pressure channel. If the measured medium has a high viscosity or contains large particles, then it is best to use a level meter with a front protective cap.

In contrast to level gauges with pressure channels, level gauges with front protection caps avoid blockage of the pressure channels, or deposition, solidification or crystallization of the measured medium in the channels. Clogging of the pressure channel slows down the detection of the level gauge and, in extreme cases, makes it impossible to detect the level accurately.

Hydrostatic level gauges can be used reliably in the harshest of operating environments if the characteristics of the measured medium are already taken into account when selecting a conventional level gauge. Level probes with a front protective cap, or pressure channel are level meter types for underwater use, not only in dirt-containing media, such as sewage, but also in pure liquid media such as fuel oil or groundwater.
